Engine Swap ?'s #577955 03/09/05 01:17 AM

Where can I get information on engine swaps for these trucks (such as total cost of swap, parts needed, etc..). I've tried searching but didn't really find what I was looking for. And will the 22re fit directly into a truck that came stock with a 4 cylinder engine?

22re IS a 4 cylinder engine... Not sure what you are asking.

As for swaps. Depends on what you are swapping. People have put Ford and Chevy V8s in, Supra motors, etc. Sort of hard to nail down specific costs because it really isn't a "kit" but some people have itemized the costs THEY had, so you could get a ballpark idea.

If you're swapping in some other V6 or V8, figure $1000-1500 on top of the engine, and a tranny if you're not keeping the Toyota tranny.

For a typical V6 or V8 swap, you'll need to beef up the front suspension, larger radiator, motor mounts, tranny/t-case adapters, exhaust work, driveline work, electrical work, etc, etc.

I swapped my 3.0L V6 for a 3rd gen 3.4L V6 last year. Total cost was about $4500....motor cost alone was $2,800. I also did some stuff to the motor...W/P, Alternator, tune-up, T-Belt, Clutch. Probably over $1,000 in parts alone. Most of which didn't to be done, I just did it while it was still easy to do.....motor on a stand and all.

'93 4Runner - 3.4L 5VZ-FE, 2" body lift, on-board-air system, custom gauge cluster, rear e-locker, electric fan, custom built front and rear bumpers, sliders, 4,88 gears...all on 33x12.5's.

Did you start here?

Mike is currently swapping in a 5VZ-FE to replace my 22RE. Sells lots of parts to support the swap. Good with info, too, but he will probably have to call you back - he's working like mad these days. Partly on my stuff! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
