Big Jim this is a place where headers do have a place. Obviously you're not familiar enough with the subject to know any better.
The stock manifold on a 4-cyl and the late model 4.0 is just like a header. They are made out of tube with a flange to bolt to the block. They are made cheaply and very prone to cracking. It's not a matter of if, but when and going to an aftermarket header is a very good idea. Why buy a replacement stocker that's also going to crack???
We're not talking about a nice, cast iron manifold on these newer Jeeps.

Thorley makes a great set of Tri-Y headers for the AMC V8 - I've had a set on my CJ-7 for over 10 years with only an occassional tightening of the bolts. I have never blown a flange or collector gasket. The same cannot be said for the POS Heddman fenderwells that were on the -7 when I bought it. Down side to the Thorley's is that they are as low as the rear sping mount on the front spring.
I believe Edelbrock makes a set of shorty headers for the AMC V8 now. Neither the Edelbrocks or Thorley's are cheap.
