Ya, we are the other state that makes self-serve illegal. Personally, I'd rather pump my own gas also, just because I like to know exactly how much I'm putting in and I can't tell you how many times attendents have overfilled my tank and gotten gas everywhere. Not to mention the frustration of having to sit there and wait...and wait....and wait...for the attendent to get to me, when I could have put my card in, pumped my gas and been down the road by then.
On the flip side, at least it provides "some" extra jobs in our new era of "jobless recovery economies".
I've historically been for the law banning self-serve for the job reason, but I think if it comes up again, I'll support allowing self-serve. But I won't be under the illusion that it will make our gas cheaper. I know that's a load of crap of they try to sell us to pass a new law. So you backed more regulations and added government control over everyday activities (not to mention more government intervention into the market), then you say: We live in a sad time, that everything needs to made "safe" for us, to the point that someday soon, we won't be allowed to leave our houses without government licensing and approval.....and helmets. Wow, talk about self-serving inconsistency. As long as the government intervention is ok with you, you back it, but if you don't like it then you say it's a sad time.

33x9.50 spare on a 6" rim is not too bad. I'll be adding a tire carrier to my rear bumper, to both allow for a 35" spare and to gain some clearance in back when needed. So on a long, primarily road trip, I can have the spare underneath. For harder trails, I can slap it on the rack.

The hassles of gas cans it what motivated me to stick in the NWMP aux. fuel tank. Gives 13 extra gallons, its all properly vented into the existing system, tucked up into the frame rails and pretty safe. I installed the fuel cell in my rig for the same reason. My cell is just a holding tank that has a small NAPA electric fuel pump on it to move the gas from the cell to the main camp when I am parked. Here is a shot of how I plumbed it into the main tank. I hate "Jerry Cans" ![[Linked Image]](http://pics.montypics.com/oops/2004-07-07/1089261391_fuel_cell_ballvalve.jpg)

The fluid won't expand, but the vapors in the empty part of the can will.
Fluid expands when heated also. Remove your radiator cap while the engine is hot for a demonstration.

We haven't been able to buy the old style metal gas cans in Canada for a number of years. All are plastic now but we don't have the caps/lids like you are showing. We just have screw off caps. I didn't like the plastic ones to begin with but they have grown on me. I don't think it is legal to fill an old style metal can at the pumps anymore.

It is a static electricity danger thing? I can't see how plastic gas can are safer than metal ones. Funny enough, the company that I was referring too that no longer sells the metal cans will be more than happy to sell you a collaspable temporary paper gas container. I just don't get it. You guys are starting to make me reconsider the NWMP tank. Maybe I should go that route, and be done with it, before they aren't allowed to build and sell those tanks anymore for some reason.

Here in Pennsylvania they are trying to make it so you cannot do self-serve at the gas stations. AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH....you've got to be kidding...how did i miss that one? so now it will take 10x as long to get gas...and the pumper guy will undoubtedly "top off" the tank...and spill gas down the side of my truck...and... why?...why? why? why? why? why? i'd love to see the rationale...there's gotta be some seriously twisted statistics behind this idea. yet another move toward quashing self-sufficiency, taking away responsibility for one's actions, and generally forcing everyone to be reliant on others for everything...arrrggghhhhh...this country is moving in exactly the wrong direction. man, i really don't want to have to rely on someone else to put gas in my truck. what a joke. sorry for the rant...i'm just getting tired of being punished because other people aren't capable of doing anything for themselves. all right...my blood pressure is back to somewhere near normal now.

For your information and use, here is my Jerry Can Paper. Although it does not address CARB-compliant jerry cans (I still live in a free state so don't have to deal with it), it does give information on what jerry cans are good and which aren't. Thanks, Al Jerry Can Paper

I guess the only other option for a non-plastic can is to goto a local army surplus store and buy one of them narly military metal gas cans.. The only downsides are that they are used and somewhat expensive.

Thanks, Al Jerry Can Paper Thanks for the info, that was an interesting read. I didn't realize that the military now uses plastic gas cans. Also interesting that the military metal cans and holders uses a thicker material. And finally, confirms my own experience, that the Wedco metal cans are FAR superior to those leaking pesky Blitz cans you see everywhere.
