FINALLY got it back on the road on Thursday. The problem was major. Transmission fluid cooler? was clogged (or failed) and fluid was not circulating. They had to rebuild the torque converter and transmission. Replace all clutches, o-rings, gaskets and seals. Replaced band and solenoids. They rebuilt the complete front of transmission, pump, overdrive section back to the center support. Now I'm broke.

Sorry manà.
I am just curios did you have an aftermarket Transmission fluid cooler?

Ouch, that is an expensive fix.

The only way I could see all of those parts needing to be replaced is if the pump actually grenaded. I am not saying you got screwed because it can happen. Just saying it is rare.

If the pump grenades it will send metal shards through the trans, cooler, torque converter, etc. Most places will just flush these parts but some feel the need to replace. Either way you are back on the road and that is what is important.

I was there when they dropped the pan on the transmission and there were big chunks of metal in there as big as a dime.

There are 62K miles on the vehicle. It is my wifes vehicle and she doens't drive it hard. We got it with 20K and it had been wrecked and repaired just before we got it.

Thats why I hate auto transmissions, they are expensive to fix and let you stranded in the middle of nowhere. I had an Isuzu trooper that started to shift erratically, I took it to several transmission shop in a period of three months and nobody could find out what is wrong with the stupid thing but they all wished me good luck, until I fixed it myself. The problem was a bad diode in the transmission controller. I went through hell and back over a 5 cents diode. That is why no more auto for this guy. My manual transmission now has a controller that has worked fairly well so far.

ditto, hopes of me buying another auto were wrecked when the auto went out in my former maxima, way too expensive to deal with, no more autos for this guy either.
