Well, with all the snow still up in icehouse, it looks like our group is not going to hit the rubicon this memorial day. I was hoping to get some ideas from some of you for other places to go for the long weekend. We're trying tofind somewhere within 3 or so hours of sacramento, where camping is allowed and there is a trail or two nearby. I'd also personally like to be ableto fish as well. The day is creeping up on us, and we don't know where to go. Please post some suggestions, thanks a ton.

I am just going camping and fishing with the family up at Stampede Lake, it is a tradition of ours. A lot of people are going to Moonrocks near Reno and there is a group headed up to High Lakes, near Paradise. Too bad about all of the late snow, but we can really use the water and I appreciate your good judgement. [ May 16, 2003, 07:59 PM: Message edited by: DirtyHarry ]

I don't know specifics. The Rock Changos are the club going to High Lakes, you can probably find more information on their bulletin board.

The High Lakes are about an hour and a half out of Chico in the Plumas National forest. I am not part of the Rock Chongos, but myself and three other rigs are heading up there on Friday, for one last snow camping trip of the season. A buddy that was up there last weekend said there was atleast 4' at the lower elevations. Last year there was about 8'-10' feet above 6000'. There are several Lakes to fish at, one you should be able to get to is called Philbrook, it was below the snow line last May. All in all camping in the snow is no different than on dirt, the fire pit is a little different. If you haven't camped in the snow yet now would be a pretty good time with the warm nights and days. You should be able to get basic map of the area at a National Forest Service Center. If interested I could give you more detailed info. My group will be leaving between 6 and 7pm Friday. I can also email some pics of the area if wanted.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

thanks for the suggestions, but the others want to hit fort bragg, so i'm guessing we're going there, and probably no wheeling.
snow camping is fun, I used to go camp at Loon lake for new years every year.
