ARB compressor gremlins ??? #584129 03/23/05 05:41 PM

I'm hoping some of you guru's can help me figure this out.

I installed the ARB lockers with compressor back in July. I've been extremly happy with it...until this weekend. I went to turn on the compressor, and it wouldn't work. I tinkered with it for a short while on the trail, and decided I'd better do it at home, 'cause I could do all the trails without the locker, but it would have been nice.

This morning I get a phone call from my neigbor, saying there is a wierd buzzing noise coming from my front yard, and when I go check it, sure enough its my ARB compressor. When I checked it, it appears that a seal has blown on the compressor, and the air is just leaking out (obviously have to fix that <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />)

Here is the odd part. I never finished completly wiring the system. The red wire, which is supposed to go to the ignition, I have hanging below the dash, and when I need the ARB's, I plug it in to a fuse block. (I know, I need to wire it correctly, just havn't had time)The wire was NOT connected to the fuse block, and the switch had no power, and the switch was in the off position...but the compressor was going.

Has anyone ever experienced something like this? or is my truck possesed? If anyone has thoughts on what I should check first, or lookd at modifying, I'd sure appreciate any feedback.

Thanks in advance.....

Hmm, are there 3 wires?
Red, orange, black?
The orange would be to the battery, always hot.
Could be a faulty relay, and is stuck on.
I'm really not familiar with how arb's are wired.

There are 2 wires that come off the switch, which are supossed to be connected to power. The red one is to the ignition switch, and a blue one which is connected to the headlight switch. The remaining 4 wires go to a relay. Unfortunatly, it is wrapped in a loom from the factory, and I'm not sure which wire goes where.

Seems odd that it would suddenly start without any power thru the switch.

Sounds like the relay is bad, this could be why the compressor wouldn't work when on the trail. Buy a new relay and wire up the switch(correctly), and you should be fine.

Are you running a small tank with the compressor. If you are, you can buy a Superflow compressor from Kragen for $45, and wire it in as a back-up.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.
