Getting the Wheeling Fever
This is a really dumb question but... has anyone figured out a way to lower the height on the seatbelt shoulder harness on the '89 PU?

I'm 5'9" and it goes right across the side of my neck. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

there's a pretty simple way to do it actually.. take a look at any 2000 or newer suburban or tahoe backseat and you'll see something like this, sort of hard to explain but i'll try..

drill a hole about 4-7 inches below bolt for the socalled clip that the belt already feeds through and attach about 4inches of tiny bungy cord then hit up a junk yard for a little piece of plastic that the belt will feed through. place the "feeder" you get from the yard on the other end of the bungy, this pull the belt down or over a small amount. it was made for small children in many newer cars it will still be able to be pulled tight incase of accident but will be able to pull the belt away from your neck. hope that helps, ryan

You may be able to raise the seat up:

or you can just do what i do, put the shoulder harness under your arm that way it goes across your chest

Hey 4Crawler - Love your web page, lot's of good mods for not much $$. In the PU, I don't want to raise the seat cause my taller friends complain now about bumping their heads.

WomenLoveMe... - I'll try to take a look at the GM rear seat belts and try to figure out what you're saying. I tried a plastic clip for a child's car seat, both on the vertical and lap section, but it just keeps falling off. I may try the metal version.

ToyotafourWheeln-I tired that first but it isn't my preference for comfort. Instead of chaffing my neck, I caffe my armpit.

Any other thoughts? Thanks.

ya i took some pics this morn of my moms ride and also thought of another easy way to do it... nix the whole junkyard belt clip part.. just drill a hole 4 or so inch below and attach a rope, or bungy and instead of creating something the belt can slide through just take the bungie and loop it around the belt, that way the bungie will be pulling the belt towards the door but at a lower angle than the stock mount.. get it? i can get ya some pics in a few days, pretty lazy but i'll try. ryan

haha here we go, like this

[*\
[...\
[0-|
[....\
[.....\
[......\
[.......\

-ignore the ".'s" they are just there as a filler to make the belt and everything line up-

looks odd but here, the "*" is the main stock mount where your belt loops through near the roof, then the "0" is the mount you need to make, and the "-" is the bungy pulling the belt towards the wall... get it?

Have you guys tried looking under the plastic trim yet? Pre-89 have a second hole a few inches lower for the seatbelt to mount to, and I'm pretty sure that it was still there up to 95.

Shane - I attempted to but I can't seem to get the cover off.

WomenLoveMe...-Now I get it, maybe I'll give it a shot.

It's very annoying for anyone under 5'9". Thanks.

Well this is what it looks like, top hole is where it used to be. Only thing I had to do was cut the hole in the plastic trim.
