ok guys, while i have the head and everything off to fix the head gasket, i got a bit of time before it comes in, so whats the best way to clean up the intake manifold
theres alot of carbon and stuff built up in there, its really hard to get out with a toothbrush and throttle body cleaner like i have been doing
thanks

OVER CLEANER!
While the label will state that it is not intended for use on aluminum...I havent had any ill effects from using it myself. Liquid Dishwasher soap is pretty acidic as well...does amazing things to old ugly metal.

Watch getting those cleaners on the outside unless you want it to look hazy.

the oven cleaner just makes it have this white dust stuff on it that you have to wire brush off if you leave it on too long but it doesnt hurt anything. i used it on my timing chain cover and valve cover, worked good. simple green and purple power also work well. get a good set of brushs also. but i didnt have any carbon buildup on the inside of my intake manifold. i wonder why?

I've always use TB cleaner with good result. Start your truck then shoot inside air intake (take off filter). The motor will likely die so you need to give some throttle. spray at least half can of cleaner.
Then stop engine and take off air intake pipe. Spray inside throttle + brush if needed + then try to start motor (may turn more then usualy).
I do mine each 6-8 months
