Are you glad you did the IFS? Do you wish you'd SAS'd instead?
If Mad Max had a 4runner...

Having owned both and wheeled both, on moderate to more severe trails, I answered accordingly. You can wheel the snot out of IFS without going to a $1K or so lift, and its the right choice for 80% of the the wheelers out there. But its not as enjoyable.

But its not as enjoyable. i totally agree!!! i wheeled the hell out of my rig when it was IFS(well, as far as it would take me anyway) with no real problems. then i axle swapped it and found out that there`s so much more trail you can tackle. like Chili said, most guys would rather run an IFS kit but it`s not as enjoyable. also, a GOOD majority of the guys do only moderate wheeling so they prolly wouldn`t be able to put an axle swapped rig to it`s full potential anyway.
SAS88TOY, caged, lockered, Longfielded, etc. etc. etc. blah blah blah!!! 2005 Tundra Quadcab.

When I had IFS - I was happy with it. ProComp lift, custom built swaybar disconnects, costom mods to get more travel, gearing, locker, skid plates, etc. Would I skip it and go straight to SAS? Not on your life. I appreciate every modification, every trail ride, every experience from those days. It was part of the "process", and IMHO should not be left out. I learned how to drive my rig, not have my rig drive me. Some people never want to go further than IFS will take them (which it will take them a LOT of places!) and that is cool too. Build it, enjoy it, if you outgrow it - move on

I don't regret installing an IFS lift when I had IFS. It was part of a natural progression of building the rig up and tackling harder terrain. If I was going to have an IFS rig and wheel it, I'd put one on again. I'd also probably buy it USED again too. There are plenty of them out there.

I wheeled more w/ ifs than w/ SAS. no lie. Had more fun too. Trails were more challenging then.
I used to have my gears setup by Off-Road Specialties in Blaine - used to talk to Steve a lot (he's now part-owner of ORO) about wheeling. He pulled his lockers out of his EB and when limited slips instead - w/ lockers, there was no more "challenge" in MN. I thought him a fool at the time... now I agree.
The better the rig is built, the more capable it is, the more extreme the trails "seem" to need to be to enjoy the investment.
I still prefer a solid axle, but I'm pretty mild anyway.
Brian K. Gallus I have nothing important to say.

The solution isn't to remove your lockers. The solution to that problem is to remove yourself from Minnesota.

I wheeled IFS for two and a half years, 4" Pro-Comp (which I sold to Erik B and he turned around and sold it for more then I sold it to him for ) and I loved it I had a Tru-Trak in front, ARB in back, Marlin 4:70 t-case, 33" BFG MT's, 4" SkyJacker SoftRides in the back. I went every where I go now, Con, 4-Dice, and the Dusy (did not try the Hammers ) We had a lot of fun. The main reason I did the SAS was, I love working on stuff and fabbing. I was one of the first people to do a SAS on a Toyota in the Greater Sacramento area. In 1973 I helped my dirt bike buddy do an SAS on a 71 Dodge Maxi Van !!!!!!Wheeling IFS is a great learning curve!!!!
