Getting the Wheeling Fever
So I have finally installed the manual Superwinch hubs on my 89 Montero,"The Bus", to take care of my ôwheel lockö light in the dashboard. Ok, fine then later on comes my ôAT Tempö light which scared me at first. But since the light turned on as soon as I turned on the bus in the cold southwest morning, I knew it could not be overheating that early in the commute. Suddenly one day the ôAT Tempö turned off and stayed off. So I went and had the transmission fluid taken out and serviced the transmission. There seemed to be nothing wrong with the transmission fluid other than it was black. About 3000 or so miles ago the ôMaintenance Requiredö light comes on and has not turned off. (My bus has 153K miles on it) I know it is mileage dependent and blah blah blah by Mitsubishi.

Yes, my question is how do I turn of the light with out going to the dealer? If worse comes to worse is it possible to remove the light bulb from inside the dashboard and how complicated will that be?

I think typically at that mileage removing the bulb is what they do. getting to it is no biggie.

Yes black means you burned it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> How has it been since the service?

Since the service, the Montero runs smoother. The transmission also shifts smoother through out the gears, specially going from third to fourth. So I think why the AT light came on was due to the sensor getting wet. At the same thing that this was happening a guy in California put out a message with the same symptoms as mine, wet streets, large puddles of water and heavy rain fall. Well here in the desert, we had some relative hard rains and our street drainage system in not that good.

Anyways I think that the transmission had not been serviced in a while, and thats why the oil came black. The mechanic said it was ok.

You got it on the AT Temp light. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Maint Required comes on at 150k IIRC and as they've mentioned is only a reminder that you should have your 150K mile checkup.

If the Check Engine light comes on then that means you've got a problem that the Engine Computer found and it's storing a code which gives you a hint at what might be wrong. Keep in mind this hint usually tells you that somethings failed or is no longer within spec but don't just replace that item. Find out what can cause it to go wrong or you may still have a problem and the same part will fail again because you didn't get down to the root cause.

HTH.

Oh, I was probably the CA guy you saw writing about the water setting off the AT Temp light. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
