Wouldn't it be a lot cheaper and easier to go to 4.56 gears?

Would changing the gears to 4.56 really change the cars performance enough..?

Yes the gear swap would work, but he plans on using this jeep as a highway driver to get back and forth from school. The MPG would suck. (great for offraod...bad for highway) I think the best cheapest choice is to down size to stock tires size.

With 33's and a 2.5? I would think your 60+ speed would be labored at best.. How does it hiway?
My guess is it would take 4.88 or bettr to run at hiway speeds.
Tell us what it does in traffic?

I have no idea what gears you'd need, just throwing them out there as an idea. I know most of my friends were able to use OD again once they went to better gearing and therefore did better on gas than they were doing.

Taking this post into consideration I would suggest a tune up and maybe checking the cat converter. When those get partially stopped up you get something like that happening
One test is 3rd gear. Put her in 3rd and see how many revs she will get.. a stopped up cat will not let you get max revs.
Maybe you baby it too much. With those tires it should be in 4th at 50 anyway.

I have a 98 2.5l running 31's and I woudl have to say the lose of OB was seen. I have 5th gear but didn't use it all that much till I did a few cheap modifications to the fuel curve. Its much better now, I am not saying that I am going to win off the line vs a stock 2.5 but its nice to use 5ht again.
cheers
