Getting the Wheeling Fever

Armed with several printed out threads, I'm in the middle of attempting my first clutch replacement on my 91 Trooper. Things have gone fairly well so far - I've got most stuff out of the way & one of the last things I have to do prior to dropping the tranny is to remove the clutch release cylinder (which some folks here call the slave cylinder).
There are two bolts holding it on. The bottom one was pretty tight, but loosened with a bit of motivation. The top one was much looser. And I'm able to turn it and turn it, and it never screws out any. And when I tighten it, it never snugs up. I assumed it was stripped - but never having taken one of these out - I don't know if there's a hidden nut or something up there that I can't see.
The cylinder isnÆt loose enough for me to get a small screwdriver under the bolt and try to pry it a bit, and I've tried pulling on the bolt to see if I could just extract it by pulling. No luck..there's a bit of play but not enough to get any leverage on it.
Any advice? I'm dead in the water at the moment - -since I can't drop the tranny without breaking the hydraulics.

If there is a nut, it will be on the other side of the tab on the engine. It should be pretty easy to see and or feel for if you are spinning that bolt. If that is not the case, then it is stripped and it is time to get out the cutting tools and pop that head off.

You can pry the slave cylinder out(a little pressure) while loosening the bolt(air ratchet helps)and most will back out. If not as stated above use a dremel with cutoff wheel and cut the head of the bolt off. Goodluck

The top bolt screws into the tranny case, the bottom one has a nut. I just did my clutch and the top one was stripped at the head. You can take the tranny out with the cylinder attached but it will make bleeding a bit more difficult after the fact. That is what I had to do. Mark
