I'm sure (hope) that this is a fuse. Where is the fuse for the rear window located? Thanks alot, any other thoughts are most welcome.

I've noticed that if the rear window goes down with the interior switch, but not the key, that my license plate lamps are burned out. Yes, both. I've got some wierd occasional short knocking them out. New lamps, key is operational. I'm sure it's just me though. 4Crawlers information is priceless. That's where I always go first.

Before you go to a lot of trouble, make sure the rear wiper is parked all the way If it's not the window won't do anything.

The tailgate harness is a weak point. Mine had broken wires. The PO had 'fixed' them with crimp lugs, which filled up with moisture, turned to cupric sulfate, and disintegrated. Simple fix with solder, shrink tube, fresh wire, and tape, but tedious to track down.

Yeah, I noticed that Bill. My tailgate is missing the grommet where the wire assy. enters the tailgate. It's all taped up with elictrical tape. I'm kinda afraid to start removing it if you know what I mean!

Sometimes, all that's LEFT is the baling wire!

#1 most common problem I list on the rear window page:

So what are the most common problems that are encountered with the rear window?
#1 is the rear wiper not fully retracting and closing its switch. If the window relay doesn't think the wiper is off the glass, it won't move the window, up or down. In
the 1st gen 4Runner you can also have neglected to reconnect the window wiper connector inside the rear driver's side corner.

I love the simple and cheap fixes. Gotta remember that the rear wiper assy is hitting 20 years old!
