I have never purchased a head unit before so I have been researching different brands for in-dash retractable LCD navigation/mp3/CD/DVD options.
I have read a lot about the pioneer AVIC-N1 unit and how it is basically the same as the newer N2 unit. Most of us would like to have a DVD in and the N1 can bypass the emergency brake feature. Is there something IÆm missing? Why would you want to buy the N2?
Also, I have been looking at Kenwood in-dash retractable LCD navigation/mp3/CD/DVD head units but IÆm trying to figure out the best brand to get. can you guys give me some pros and cons of the Pioneer and Kenwood? Are there better brands out there that I should be looking at? Does Alpine make an all in one?
This is what IÆm looking for: Navigation Retractable LCD DVD player that can play while the car is in motion MP3/CD Steering wheel mounted remote control Voice guidance for navigation û the feature that tells you to turn left, right, etc. All the other bells and whistles IÆm not too worried about. I just want the above features
I have searched all over the web and some guys said the pioneers steering wheel remote is not that great. Have any of you guys experienced this same issue where the remote does not always work? I know you have to reinsert the navigation DVD if you want to change your route. Is there an external unit for this so you never have to worry about it? IÆm looking to spend around $2000 for the entire setup.
Sorry if some of these questions are lame but IÆm just trying to figure out what to buy and I would much rather take advice from people who OWN and USE this stuff every day than get advice from some sales person.
Thanks!

Take a look at this thread on Yotatech. A couple of guys have retrofitted an OEM nav system into their 4Runners. There is also some discussion on the last couple of pages about a new nav system by Eclipse. Hope this helps.
