Body Damage is Cool

Mine seems to be fixed. After spraying 1/4 can of throttle body cleaner in there and a new air filter then running it for a bit , it fires up every time now.Today I also put in a new fuel filter , and it runs even better as the fuel filter I had was a little old , probably hasn't been changed in a few years.

I'm having a similar problem. Runs terrible when cold, fine when warm. Today I tried connecting the diag terminals when running. SES light shows open loop (2 flashes/second) for a few minutes, then goes to closed loop (1 flash/second). The longer the duration of the flash, the richer the mixture and vice versa, by the way. I am wondering if you are a) Not running in open loop (and thus maybe EGR is open, etc). b) Or running poorly in open loop (like I am). Can you try this for purposes of comparison?

One more thing: The WOT condition is also Open Loop, so that may be why it "fixes" your hard starting.

I replaced the fuel filter tonight. I was unable to blow through the old one. The 5/16 neoprene gas lines were brittle so I replace that also. I can't believe the difference. I thought the 2.8 was underpowered before the new filter. It runs great now. I drove it around the block and waited 10 minutes and it started fine. Thanks for everyone's tips and suggestions!

Happened to me this morning (haven't changed the fuel filter yet..): I was getting gas and I left the key in the on position with the engine off (by mistake, I just came out of the dentist's office and my mouth was still numb = ). I filled up, hopped back in and turned the key- no start. I turned it one more time and nothing. Third time was the charm because I held the gas pedal down and it roared (OK, a little exaggeration ) to life.
That was the first time in a while that it did that.
