Ok , I haven't pressure tested my fuel pump yet , but talking to people , they say it sounds like its on its way out.I priced out fuel pumps today , almost 400 with my discount <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> Now , my question is , will a fuel pump from a 2.6 MPFI work on a 2.8 TBI? Its almost the same pump looks wise , but I think the MPFI is higher PSI at between 35-45 , and not sure what the other one pumps out.I figure with the extra pressure it would just mean more fuel pumping through the charcoal cannister and going back through the return line.
Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

I don't know the flow rates you are asking about but I do know a fuel pump does not cost that much. Where are you looking? I am sure you can find a place in the States that could get you one for way less.

The 2.6 pump puts out closer to 60psi... it's reduced to about 45 at the regulator. I don't remember, but I think the 2.8 only works on about 10-15psi.
I don't think the regulator on the 2.8 would like having 60psi pumped on the backside of it... when it wasn't made for that. Also, the fuel doesn't get pumped through the charcol canister. The charcol cannister is where the tank vents to... but the fuel itself does not pass through it.

I looked at the major suppliers in my town that deal all through canada , and with my discount is was 333 plus taxes.So your looking at another 14.5 % in taxes on top of that.Things aren't cheap here ya know <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> We pay almost 5 a gallon for gas , mostly 'gas tax' , and I was talking to a guy yesterday that was shopping for parts for his 2.6.A head with nothing in it , 1000 , a crankshaft , 1000 , a bare 2.6 block , nothing in it 4200. And he was whining about what I was asking for a good running 2.6 , complete <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I pulled the other pump I have that I thought was toast , I cleaned it up and it looks like it might be ok , the sock is toast , it was covered in filth.When I run low on gas in my tank , I'll try swapping it and see what happens.If no difference , then I'll start looking at other things that might be casuing my lack of power when I go up hills.I should be able to go up a hill faster then 30 miles an hour and not lose speed. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

I just bought a fuel pump today (to replace mine that died on my 2.6 monday morning) to the tune of $115.00 or so + tax (includes fuel-pump and strainer). I ordered it from Fisher Auto Parts in Braceville Illinois. My next-door neighbor is a salesman there. I really would hate to see you paying $400.00 for something like that. They might be able to ship to Canada. Take care.

Well , the 2.6 one is cheap here too.I can get one of those puppies for 117 plus tax , in stock even.For some reason the 2.8 pump is 3x the price , which I don't understand as it uses less pressure , and its designed for a gm engine <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> You would think it would be the cheaper of the 2.

My newest one is about a year and half old. I had some fuel system issues last summer and dropped my tank. While the pump was out, I tested it by wiring it to the battery and using a fuel line in a 5 gallon bucket of fuel (so I didn't burn out the pump) to be sure the pump was working. And as recently as November, I tested the fuel pressure in my truck at several points (both feed and return) to diagnose what turned out to be a crack in my distrubutor cap and all pressures were as they were supposed to be.

I know....dropping the tank to change it is a big deal and installing a used pump is not something most people would do but I have 2 "known good" pumps. I'll sell you one for $35.00 if you're interested.

I know, it's risky buying from someone you don't know but I respect the "wire" and the freinds I've made here...I wouldn't abuse that.
