Getting the Wheeling Fever
Lately I've notice that my 85 pickup vibrates (front end) when taking off from a stop. I have 31x10.5 on the truck and was wondering if this could be part of the problem. I also don't experience shimmy or anything that would suggest the front end is out of alignment at highway speeds. Some of the bushings seem pretty worn out, but no more so than you would expect from a truck this old.

Sounds like worn bushings, etc. The the front tires off the ground and check for excessive play in the spring bushings, the steering linkage, the wheel and knuckle bearings, steering stabilizer, etc.

thanks 4crawler, pretty much what I thought. Is there any one item that has a history of being a problem?

Pretty much anything can wear out. Spring bushings are common and easy to replace, polyurethane bushings are a good upgrade. Wheel and knuckle bearings can wear out and need replacement. Draglink ends can get worn and lead to play in the steering, etc. I would check everything and fix whatever is shot.
