I am thinking about buying some wheel spacers. Can anyone give me some info about how they perform? Are they strong enough for off road use? Do they perform on the highway okay?

I have never seen a spacer fail, but I have seen many of them have the attaching hardware back off; some to the point of losing a wheel on the road. So if you decide to use them I highly suggest pulling the wheels and retorquing them every oil change.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I would second John's recommendations. Also I would avoid any impact wrench usage. I bought a used vehicle that had spacers and I was unable to remove one lug nut myself - the stud was turning? Had to take it to a tire shop and they got it loose by pulling out on the tire while they impacted the lug. I am replacing the spacers. There were some on Ebay awhile back for $68 plus shipping.

I found some 1 1/2 inch on Ebay that I am interested in. I went to Moab this past weekend and decided that a three inch lift with the stock wheels is a little tall and skinny for me. So i figured a widened stance would be better.

I use spacers on the front of my '87 SAS. No issues to date.
