I just picked up a 2000 Taco last night and it didn't come with an owners manual. I noticed a button to the left side of the steering wheel that says ECT. When you press the button, the instrument cluster lights up the letters ECT. Can somebody fill me in on what this little gadget's supposed to do? Been driving my '85 for nearly 21 years now and it ain't gut any fancy stuff like this. I sat my son-in-law in the seat and told him to push the button (just in case it was an abreviation for "eject" or something.

Electronic Controlled Transmission, normal mode is just that, normal. Power mode changes the shift points it will downshift with less throttle and hold each gear alot longer. Meant for towing or mountain driving, I find it more useful for driving in the city too or traffic. Plus I think my 4runner with the 2.7 gets better mpg with the tranny in pwr all the time.

that ECT button is good for towing... since it changes the auto tranny shift points, you get a lil more pulling power when starting from a stop while pulling... never tried it in any other time so dont know what impact it has on normal street driving other than assuming you will burn up gas like there's no tomorrow... on a sidenote, im getting tired of fueling up every 3 days...

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I really like the truck so far. Can't give up my '85 though. Family thinks they'll have to bury me in the bed

Tell him you bought and installed some new seats from Martin-Baker, the most highly respected name for these type of seats for over 50 years. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.martin-baker.com/images/eject_mk10l_sm.jpg)
