I cant seem to find my post from before I left in April.
I want to thank those who gave me advice. I picked up my 90 4runner in Oreland, Pa, in case you dont know where that is exactly, its 32 miles south of Slatington, PA.:)))
Actually, its just north of Philly.
My trip was quite amazing, I got most of my supplies, but I couldnt load them all, too heavy, the truck performed perfectly as I drove to Mass to pick up plywood and a trailer, then to Delaware to get my hardwood, then to Illinois to get my panel saw, then southern Illinois to get my cabinet doors from Murphysboro, Il. In case you dont know where that is
Its about 32 miles north of carbonville,,,,:))))
drove through Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, and including the first part, I drove through Penn., Connecticut, Mass,. Delawar, Maryland, West Virginia, (where I learned the terrorists were lied to, they dont get 72 virgins when they blow themselves up and innocent kids and women, they get 72 virginians who are gonna whup their asses), then I went back through Penn, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and then headed south.
The only problems I had with the truck were the odometer/speedo went out, which was a bit of a nuisance, and the OD tranny light on the dash kept blinking, also the tranny overheated a few times. I did put a tranny cooler in, and it still overheated one time.
I simply reduced the speed and keep at a low RPM but high speed to allow the tranny fluid to cool, it worked.
I must admit, like most of us, I am quite ignorant on how an auto tranny works, and if lower engine rpms equates to lower demand on the tranny.
Coulda used a bit more power on the hills, but I would pick up speed going downhill, pass all the semi's, then they would blow by me on the uphill grades.
The people were FANTASTIC, good people making a great nation, we are all so fortunate to live here, it was truly amazing, and the countryside was beautiful
Particularly I was shocked at the grandeur of the southwest.
East and "midwest" (Illinois, indiana, missouri area) were beautiful, lots of trees and greenery, but it cannot even remotely compare to the magnificence of the southwest. I thought I would only take a few pics in the southwest,
cuz the scenerly would be basically all the same, after you've seen one mountain , you've seen them all,
WRONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG answer !
I took almost 80% of my picks in the southwest. I took 10 rolls of film, and had to keep stopping and getting more once I hit New Mexico. I was totally amazed and in awe of that area.
I think when God created the earth, He looked down at the dreary southwest USA, and he said, there, I will take what is the least of my creation and make it into my finest.
I cannot say enough about the sheer magnitude and beauty, its breath taking, and you cant even begin to capture it in pics, you have to be there.
I was traveling through a pass just outside of flagstaff I think, or some New Mexico town, and a rainbow appeared, just drop dead gorgous. I took some pics, but of course they dont do it justice.
I have them loaded at
www.picturetrail.com/ronandsherry if anyone is interested. I only have a few up so far, many more to come.
