Getting the Wheeling Fever
Need a little help with this one... I am traveling and just had the truck feeling like it was running on 5 cyl (3VZE V6) stopped to check it out and the Cat was glowing bright red. My initial diag points to a pad plug or wire. But I also have the check engine light on (not surprising).. So in the morning I am going to pull injector wires untill I kill the bad cylinder so I can drive it safely to a place that I can work on it.

PS. All gauges remained at regular levels.

any other suggestions would be helpful

Whats your exaust smell like? Does it smell like Sulfur?

Well, if so, you are probably running VERY RICH. So much un-used fuel is being caught up in your cat that the heat from you exaust gas is heating it up.

Check plugs, wires, cap, rotor all the usualls. and your O2 SENSOR, that will cause a very rich or lean mixture. and if it wasnt bad before, im willing to bet that it is now...

Pull your O2 sensor, check it, if bad, buy a new one and replace it, pull your ECU fuse, see if your check engine light goes away. If it did, it was probably your O2 sensor...

Check your ECU also for any trouble codes, and report with them back here.
You can also have your codes checked at kragen, autozone ect...

You might also want to take a look at the
93 FSM Sticky Here

Hope that helps!

My best guess is that your cat is beyond plugged and that you have WAY too much back pressure between engine and the cat, I would somehow try to get the cat off and inspect it.

You say that it feels like your engine is running on 5 cylinders, this to me sounds like too much back pressure which is NOT good for your engine especially your valves, i would also do what daniel suggested above, also some good stuff. Best of luck to you.

Ended up being a stuck injector (or so says the local toyota stealership) $550 later and I will have my truck back (maybe with better fuel mileage?)

Oh Update! Now they claim that the cat melted and that is why there is no power. I reminded them that they were driving a 3.slow. But now the truck apparently will not go over 30 mph. I could use some help on this one. I drove the truck to the dealership and the thing definitely went over 35mph. I am now under the impression that I am being d***ed around. Has anybody else had problems with Toyota Volvo of Keene?

Well, my best bet is you are being dicked around BIG TIME!

$550 bucks for a new injector? Psh, uou could have bought a new one for $125 bucks-ish(I think) and put it in yourself!

And dont let them push you around, just get your truck back. Bring a metal pipe, or a crowbar, a metric socket set, pull your cat off and BUST a hole in it right in the stealership parking lot! (I've done many things in stealership parking lots) Ryan knows...

But, if you don;t wanna take my approch
Find yourself a nice hi-flow cat and just install it yourself in the parking lot. Its like 8 blots, pull the old cat out, put the new one in! Only about $100 bucks for a high-flow cat! Trust me, thats what you want to do. And if they hassle you for pulling the old cat out and putting the new one in, in their parking lot, hassle them for the fact that you just spent $550 bucks on a new injector.

I put in my electric fan in the stealrship parking lot, and nobody hassled me. Soo, i doubt they'll hassle you. BUT IF they do, hassle back!

I agree
I have had this happen and seen it happen more than once.
The Cat will actually come apart inside.
Pull the Cat.
That Stealership is more than likely going to soak you.

The charge for the injector is legit. it was cyl # ? but it was the passenger side front on the engine. so they had to pull the intake manifold and replace that. Plus all the plugs and gaskets and such. I am sure that I melted the crap out of the cat, and since they are replacing it they can deal with the welded flanges from the time that they leaked to the point that a new gasket did nothing. (welded them shut at a truck stop with my welder that I just so happened to have in the truck.

but oh well don't have much of a choice today. no tools and 150 miles from home.
