seeing as how my carb has only one working diaphram now, i think i'm gonna go through the thing with a rebuild kit. i've heard people mention the NAPA kit for $40. i also called Autozone, and they only wanted $26. is the NAPA kit that much better, or does it just cost more?
also, i've had a few parts guys ask me if it's a Aisin or Toyota carb. i guess i thought they were one in the same...

wow, I thought all the Toyota carbs were Aisin. I've seen Aisin hubs on Suzuki Samurais, though, so I wonder if Aisin is like Beck Arnley and makes stuff for other people, too.
I used a Beck Arnley kit years ago from Advance Auto. Had everything I needed except for the carb base gaskets which I had to buy at NAPA. buy the Autozone one and then go to NAPA to see what all comes in their kit before you open it?

So. . .
Exactly how difficult is a carb rebuild. I have always viewed carbs as little nuggets of black magic. I turn an adjusting screw and the truck runs different. I have a sneaking suspision that my truck is in need of some carb attn. Any suggestions?

I did a carb rebuild on the first Toyota I had about 8 years ago. I'd never done one before and I half assed it over a day and a half on a weekend because I needed it the next day for work. it still ran way better than it did before, so...
not too big of a deal if you can afford a little downtime, have a decent set of mini pliers. some compressed air would have been handy when I did mine, and some more time to soak the parts.

It's simple, if the counter guy doesn't ask you for the number off of the metal tag on the carb, you're getting a cheap generic Toy carbkit (the $26 type). If they want the number, you're getting a kit made for that model Toy carb (the $50 kit). Go to NAPA.

what kind of gains should you expect from a carb rebuild if you have about 150k? how long does it take to do a good job at rebuilding one? is it easy to mess up? man im full of questions.
