I think what most people consider a Cat-back system is the exhaust system from the cat back to the tail pipe. Personally I wouldn't consider changing the cat-back piping without also changing the cross-over too (the real restriction) and putting on headers.

WOW $850 bucks?!?!

What kind of Cat-Back system are you getting?! LOL

Cat back systems (Pre-made at the factory) are pretty much bolt-on, and you can install it yourself pretty easily.

Now, Headers you can also intall by yourself, but require alot more work, and as I have heard, can be down-right-frustrateing at times.

But the crossover, as it is the point of most restriction, it is also the point of most pain-in-the-ass-ness, for lack of better words LOL.

But, I am planning on upgradding my exaust system from the cross-over back.

I'm going to try and fab-up a new, bigger crossover(not sure on the size yet), then either 2 5/8 or 2 1/2 to the cat, then 2 1/2 from cat-back going through a Borla

My *Dream exaust setup*

Since I mentioned headers and cross-over I think he's adding that in too. I'm in to my new exhaust system for about $650 already and I'm just collecting the parts, I haven't even had the custom cross-over made yet. It does add up.

mt_goat,
If you make a custom crossover, make a couple, I'd be interested in buying one!

I was planning on crossing over behind the transfer case. I talked to a good muffler shop near me about doing it. I'm looking at about $300 in welding and pipe to complete this little project, bringing the total to $950 . If it delivers the claimed 14 HP that is a whopping $67.8/pony. These are expensive ponies aren't they, oh well I needed a new muffler anyway.

You can get a 2-1/4" aluminized cat-back system for around $220 and install it yourself. Then either do headers and y-pipe or do a custom crossover like the one Downey used to offer.
