Cliffs notes, I came pretty close to getting creamed this afternoon.

Here's some thumbnails... click each to get the FULL size pic (dialup beware, they are the original HUGE pics, totally unresized)

Now the long story... as I crested the hill in photo 1, i was coming up on the rear of a semi in the right lane and started to move left behind an Excursion pulling a pretty large camping trailer, and a double buggy trailer. I'm not sure I'd pull 2 trailers with an excursion...but hey. So anyway as I started to merge over to pass the semi, the chit hit the fan. The semi LOCKED the rear wheels on the trailer...i'm thinking he's about to jack knife and then i notice the excursion behing yanked all over the place by it's trailers. The buggy trailer started dumping debris...the one thing that still sticks out in my mind (almost literally ) was a floor jack that hit the pavement and kicked up and over my car. It's at this point that I somehow got back over to the right shoulder and got the D stopped a short distance from where the Excursion stopped and where the camping trailer exploded. As the trailer left the pavement to the right, it just rolled and disintegrated. Somehow the Excursion driver was able to keep the rubber side down, and keep it on the road. I have no idea what happened with the semi driver...i tried to reach him on channel 19 right after it happened and I either have no range or he had NO interest in stopping despite nearly behing taken out himself.

The Excursion driver was visibly shaken, but emerged from the truck, threw his hands in the air in a sort of impromptu "thank you LORD!!!!" gesture. I made sure there wasn't anyone hurt and called 911 for them. None of the three occupants of the truck had their belts on. Noone was in the trailer...and I'm sure the mess was still there when Arna, Amanda and Dallas drove by it about 1.5 - 2 hours after I left.

It was really amazing to see that Prowler camping trailer just turn to rubble...it looked like it got hit by a tornado. I can't get the image of that floor jack bouncing off the pavement and over my roof out of my head though. Due to poor shutter time you can't see the jack in the first pic, it's on the left side of the road behind the Saturn. (right side of pic...this pic is looking back up the hill from where I finally stopped.)

Be careful everyone...

sorry bout the bad link on the pics before...my 'net was on the fritz tonight and I typed up the post before uploading the pics. Unfortunately I was unable to upload the pics to my free webspace at Cox tonight, so I stuck them up on my pay site...I hope the bandwidth don't cost me too much

I'm glad to still be here...And I think lil Nick is happy too...He didn't wanna go to bed tonight, just wanted to keep playing

I can't see pic 3...the other two are fine but only a thin strip on top on #3. And when I click ob it to view the full size it is completely green. I can barely make out shadows of whats there. Did this pic get corrupted or is it on my end?

Glad you're OK Jason.

Same problem here with the third picture. I'm sure if it is re-uploaded, it'll be fine.

That is some crazy stuff. Some of the stretches of intersate around here are extremely windy at times, and trailers wind up getting completely and utterly destroyed.

Based on your description, I'd give it a pucker factor of 15 out of 10.

Yes, from the idiots on the road that don't feel the need to keep their stupidity out of our lives.

I'm not sure I can adequately express how pissed off it makes me, reading this, without getting myself the ban stick from the mods.

I hope that moron pays out the teeth for his mistake in towing like that. Obviously, regardless of how "safe" he thought it'd be, it didn't work out too well for him.

I don't just keep my junk safe for me and my occupants. I keep it safe for the public around me.

Well, I guess this explains the three missed calls from JasonB I had on my phone when I got out of the wedding I was in last night! Glad you're OK man...

I'm a little confused on one thing, tho. What the heck actually happened? You said the semi locked up his back wheels and you thought it would jack-knife, then the Excursion started swaying and ka-bam! But still, what caused all of this? Was it just the wind that was mentioned in someone's post? Or was there some other reason two very heavy vehicles locked up at the same time?

-Chris
