Argh, I went to replace the bushings and the seal on my idler arm yesterday and when I got it apart I noticed that the shaft was bent! I put the new bushing on the bottom and the new seal but I had to put the old bushing back on top because the new on wouldn't go on...ARGH!! Oh well, I'll start calling the yards this afternoon.

Zach, there are enough people on this and the pirate BBS that are doing a SAS that you can get the arm from them. I got my spare idler arm for $15 plus shipping. So, hit those for sale/wanted sections hard.

...or you could try to get your hands on one of these. There may be someone on POR w/ one of Drew Persson's old braces. This past winter, Drew was speaking of making an entirely new stronger arm if he could find a distributor. http://www.4x4wire.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=009968#000004OBTW, I probably have a nearly-new idler or two in my pile. One may even be a Moog (stronger). [ June 09, 2003, 02:11 PM: Message edited by: Wyatt ]

If you want to fork out the $$$ for a new one, Napa Auto has a lifetime warranty on 'em. Had replaced mine a couple of times with a fresh one. You would still want to carry a trail spare.

Last year, I was looking under a mid- to late- '90's T-100, and the Idler arm looked pretty close, if not the same as my 1st gen runner's! Anyone know if it is just a beefier bolt-on, the same, or non-compatible? This has been eating at me for almost a year now !

Toyota outfits its overseas hilux's with beefed-up idler arms. I noticed this when looking under a new 3.0L TD hilux at a dealer in thailand. Everything is the opposite since it's right-hand drive, but my feeling was the idler arm could work on either side. I guess my point is (1) there is an OEM solution and (2) Toyota has recognized the idler arm as a weak link in an otherwise pretty strong IFS design. [ June 10, 2003, 01:06 PM: Message edited by: James Chow ]
