my montero transfer case 4x4 light continues to blink after i have disengaged transfer case i have replaced the switch that indicates the t-case is engaged and when i shift to 4 to 2 wheel drive the t-case disengages but the light continues to flash. what could cause this? also at low rpm it sounds like it wants to reengage the t-case. can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

There is not a lot of third generation Montero owners on the board. Have you tried pulling the codes from the computer? You need a OBDII reader from a auto parts store. Sometimes they will loan one otherwise there around $100.

Body Damage is Cool
Just because the code said that, doesn't mean the switch was at fault. It is likely there is a module that receives the info from the switch, so the wiring and that module are also possibly at fault. Time to get a wiring schematic for the circuit, maybe ask a tech at your local Mitsu dealer what is the more common fault. If you can, (if available) get a code diagnosis flowchart, It will show the proper steps in diagnosing the problem. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Mines been blinking for the ppast 4 years. It's nothing. You know your not in 4wd when the transfer shifter is out. I love manual transfer cases.

Question: have you recently done a water crossing or gotten really muddy? This is usually the only time I have this sort of issue, with my light blinking. It always goes away after a thorough undercarraige cleaning. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
