Getting the Wheeling Fever
I just recently added two bottles of STP Gas Treatment (they only had the small bottles), and another of Fuel Injector cleaner.

Oddly, I'm getting some sputtering when I first start the rig up in the morning.

I don't know if the sputtering has anything to do with the additives (spark plugs are brand new, and engine just got new fuel filter, air filter, etc.), but it got me wondering if that stuff is worth adding to the fuel tank at all.

Thanks!

P.S. - Is their ANY validity to the idea of running a tank of Premium every now and then just to clean out the engine? I've heard equally convincing arguments that the idea is bunk.

Injector cleaner is ok every 6-months, other than that your wasting money on it if it's a regularly driven ride. For us out here it's a benefit to use it because of the high humidity and salt air. Things Rust like crazy out here... Even a tank that's half empty.

Gas treatment well, I never used the stuff before so I wouldn't know *sorry.

As for your sputtering woas, sounds like you got to much of that stuff in there or it's actually working and you motor is eating up the junk that its cleaning out...

Premium gas is good if you can afford it, otherwise your motor should run fine on the lesser grade stuff. Have your timing checked if your not running as well on low octane fuel.

The sputtering is likely the cleaner breaking stuff loose.
I would change the oil after you're finished with the tank of gas you're on.

This cleaner will wash all kinds of goop down and dilute the oil.

I'm not a "snake oil" expert, but many believe that the $20 a can BG 44K is the best "snake oil" available.

I bought a can the other day for a 17 yr. old Accord. Will soon find out.

Well, the sputtering only takes place at initial startup, and almost stalls the engine. Tap to the accelerator takes care of it, after which the engine runs like a top.

It has only happened after this one tank of gas plus additives, so either it's knocking stuff off, the gas was bad, or the combo is no good.

I think I'll take your advice on the oil. I have a 1500-mile roadtrip coming up in two weeks, and the oil that's there just finished a 600-mile trip.

Bought a can for the Amigo right before Moab and put it in right before I left. On the way back, I got 22MPG (adjusted for the 33 MTs that I had on - unadjusted mileage was about 20). I have NEVER EVER gotten 22 mph in my Amigo. (Granted, I was driving at about 65 or 70 most of the way home) but that is a hell of a lot better than the 17 or so I was getting before I put the BG 44K in...

Of course, your mileage may vary

I'mm willing to try most anything once.
Which BK product are you useing? Scroll down past the Amisol to see the whole BG list.
BG Product list

I also noticed some packaging similarities with other products out there, much like Sea Foam and Berryman B-12 have similar claims, ingredients, and package (compared by me here).

Do you now of a similar version of BK, because I can't recall seeing it around here.

I got some free bottles of the prestone octane additive and cleaner (orange bottle) and I use it between about every 3 full tanks. I can tell a difference in the way the trooper accelerates (for the better) and it just seems to run a bit smoother, which is good having almost 185k on it. Just my 2 cents....

I add a large bottle of STP with a tank of low grade gas and that keeps it from pinging. If I buy high grade gas the motor does not ping. If I buy the cheap stuff it pings. I can save several dollars in gas buy adding the 2 dollar bottle of STP.
