All cars and light trucks built and sold in the United States after January 1, 1996 are required by federal law to be OBDII equipped, which includes your 3.4L engine.
And on an OBDII equipped engine, the engine computer (or ECU) has total control of the ignition timing.. and there is no way for you to set or adjust it..
Go to an Autozone or one of those places that lets you use an OBDII scanner for free and read out the error codes that have turned on the check engine light.. and post that info here..
That will give some idea what the problem is..

Pull the tube off the t'body and see how much carbon buildup you have; might be time for a good little tuneup. Just a thought.

Tune up? I have replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, throttle position sensor, all the vacume lines, cleaned the entire intake down to the block, cleaned the maf. I am out of ideas. A V8 swap is starting to sound really good at this point.

You have cleaned the air intake, installed new plugs spark and the gas? Gas filter or something might be restricting the fuel to the engine is my guess. Good luck.
