I am looking to get a winch for my 88 Toyota pickup. I have looked at the new T-Max winches, as well as many others. Anyone have experience with the T-Max? Is there honestly really much difference in quality in brands-Warn, Ramsey, Milemarker, T-Max? Has anyone ever put a brand other then Warn on a Warn Combo kit mount front bumper? Thanks for any help. Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well I have a Ramsey 8000lb on a multi mount system supplied by MM It seems to work well. I like being able to remove it when I don?t need it.

Body Damage is Cool
No experience with milemarker or T-maxx or any winches in general I have seen one Warn M8000 break it planetary gearing trying to tow my old 4 runner up a hill and know a guy who had his warn HS9500 burn up it's motor up on a jeep.
I have a Magnum 9000 it's made by warn mostly warn parts. I haven't used it yet but I'll see how it holds up.

Roll Me Over
I was looking at a milemarker. not sure the model.. forget off hand. but I could get one to the door for about $450:) I think it's the 8 or 9 lb model. My buddy had some issues with is top of the line Warn. some kind of internal short. Warn ended up fixing it for him, but it was a PITA.

I've had a Warn M8000 now for about 10 years, and it has alway's worked well for me. I counter-spun the motor once by trying to pull with the truck with the winch line attached. (won't do that again <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />) cost me about 125 to fix it, but since then the winch has been perfect.

When I got my new truck (85 4Runner) it had the M8000I, and the dude who had it before me soaked the thing, and the motor is corroded, and the planetaries are rusted. Prolly gonna cost more than it's worth to fix.

Personally, I think all the winches are fairly good. If you treat them well, they should work fine. I'd grab the $450 winch, and use it.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did.

85 4Runner, New motor, Dual cases, 4.88's, ARB's (F/R), 4" lift, 33's, Warn M8000#.

I have a 8000 milemarker on my truck with a warn mounting plate and the bolt holes lined up perfect and i haven't had any trouble from the winch, it has pulled me a few times with ease

Thanks for all the info guys. I still don't know what one to get yet, big decision, so I have to compare all the specs.

MM & Ramsey have very slow line speeds compared to Warn. With any electric winch just remember to give the motor time to cool if it get's hot and they should give you years of trouble free work.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
The T-Max is garbage! My buddy has a 12500 on his cab truck and it sucks. That thing has never worked right even out of the box. I've had to pull that huge thing out with my little Yota twice when that thing craped out. The bolts that hold the hole thing together(the moter, spool, and siloniod) want even stay together.

As for MM and Ramsey there just slower. Now the nicer Ramseys are preety comparable to the Warn.

Work smart not hard!
