Getting the Wheeling Fever
I haven't been able to find a quality exhaust shop in St. Louis so I am considering the Calmini cat-back system for my 2003 Rodeo. Based on the photos on their web page, it looks like it is a three-piece system with the tailpipe and flange-pipe connected to the muffler with slip joints. I'm not really familiar with this type of connection....is this customary and does it work effectively on exhaust systems? It seems like it would be prone to leaks. Calmini cat-back Also, I don't know how accurate their photo is, but I don't see the bracket on the muffler for attaching it to the frame rail. Your comments are appreciated. Many thanks, Mark

slipjoints are very common. Torque the clamps to spec and all will be fine. Do not over torque them, this will crush the pipe and cause the leaks you are worried about.

I prefer slip joints; they allow easy disassembly for future muffler changes, etc.

I always paint my exhaust parts with high-temp BBQ grill paint (from Wal-Mart) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />. This prevents rusting, and is much cheaper than the automotive paint, and just as durable.

It's also a good idea to install jamb nuts on the clamps; this prevents them from loosening.
