Thanks, now I just need to find one. Is there a position in the VIN that denotes manual from slushbox ??

I am certain there is a VIN configuration that denotes what tranny is installed, but it is easyer to look through the window and see what tranny is installed instead of trying to read the VIN, an I read a lot of VINs...

I'm hesitant to contradict Gadget, but there is no way to determine by VIN #, whether it's an auto or manual. If you're looking at late model manual 4Runner's, you might look at the '99 models too. They have better ground clearance than the 2000 models. - <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I normally would look through the window but I was looking through the auto trader site and 90% of the listings have the VIN listed but not the tranny type. I had to open every ad in the search that came up. I did search the 4X4 Wire site and found that the tranny option is listed on the door plate.
I did happen to find 4 within 200 miles of my home on the trader site.
1999 Black 98,147mi. $14,950 (hood scoop) Manassas VA 1999 Silver 62,773mi. $14,350 Charlottesville VA 1999 Green 85,317mi. $14,995 Leesburg VA 2000 Silver 113,661mi. $13,995 (hood scoop) Waldorf MD
All seem to look like they are at those rinky dink dealers that buy all their cars at auctions.
I'm looking to replace my '90 Runner that has a bad case of east coast salt-belt cancer.

I'm glad I bought my 2000 wrecked and fixed it myself. I have less that 10k into it, and that was when it had 70k miles on it.
Those prices are outrageous.
