After putting on the wider 265/70/16 rubber on my OEM steelies, the chome hubcaps (aka imposters) are no longer holding the rim adequately. I already lost one hubcap on I95 down by the Philadelphia airport (please PM me if you found it ) so I figure I should take the plunge and get some alloys before I cause an accident, if I haven't already . I took some quick measurements of an extra stock wheel I have laying around and these are my observations:
[Linked Image]
16x7 6 spoke (3 raised):
~5.5 inch backspacing
6 on 5.5 with 4 inch center hole
considerable positive offset (not sure exactly how much)

Anyone care to add to my observations please feel free.

My tires rub the mud flaps slightly on full turn. I'm afraid that my aftermarket choices are limited due to the crazy backspacing of these OEMs. Has anyone ever seen an aftermarket with comperable measurements as the stockers, or should I just prepare myself for more inevitable fitment issues? I'd really appreciate any input from anyone with experience replacing this particular wheel. And, yes, I do want a polished alloy to match the rest of the stainless on my Rodeo .

TIA
-Eric

(Note that wheel width statements have been changed from 8" to 7 inches upon realizing that I'm a jackass and can't read a ruler)

If you want new/refurbished-like-new,

http://www.wheelcollisioncenter.com

is right in our neck of the woods.

As for fitment, most aftermarket don't go as deep on offset, so you end up with wheel/tire assemblies that protrude anywhere from an inch or more out from the axle compared to factory spec.

This isn't really a problem, except during scrub, as you noted, where the turning radius might catch the fender edge.

You can cut the fender like many of us have, it's not bad, and if you take a bit to do it, can leave near factory looking results. (look at the linked pic in my sig; can you tell that the fender was cut? those are 265/75R16's....)

But, you'll be more likely to want to upgrade tire size too then.

Or, you can just go factory alloys. FYI, the factory size is 16x7, the width is measured from the inside edges of where the bead of the tire would grab; not the outer edges of the metal.

Settle down boys..... They are 16x8! Isuzu made this style in an 8" width. When I get home I'll hold a ruler up to my extra and shoot a picture. Can we now return to original topic before I start doubting myself?

See my post here:

wheel width

It has this image in it:

[Linked Image]

That came from edmunds.com

Are you sure it's 8"? it just sounds really odd to us since we don't (haven't) seen that size before....

EDIT - deleted the ridiculously long link

OK, don't castrate me, you guys are right, it is a 16x7. I guess I was being a little liberal with the flange measurement. Everything I read in the past made me think it was an 8 . I guess those were the OE alloy measurements I was looking at. Oh well. So, I won't be posting any pictures. Lesson learned: don't disagree with anything Matt says , and you too Elmo.

So I can forsee the wheel situation gets pretty ugly. Not only am I adding an inch in width, but the additional lack of backspacing in an aftermarket wheel is going cause some protrusion. Jeez, and now I've got 265s on a 7 inch rim, ugh . Hmmm, so help me out here; what I need is a 16x8 with as neutral offset as possible, or even better if slightly positive, right??? Anybody have any leads?

P.S.: I'll correct the 8s to 7s so as to not mislead anybody.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the wheels have a negative offset, not positive...

My 265s are on 16x7 Isuzu alloy wheels.

What about 16x7.5 Isuzu Snowflake rims? I think those are neutral off-set.

Or get some 16x7 Isuzu factory alloy wheels with the same back spacing as your steelies

Don't sweat the 265's on Factory 7's. Everyone around here has done it at one time or another, without any major consequences.

Just be mindful that you need to run the right air pressure, so as not to balloon the tires and get uneven wear.

Nope, Zu's do have a Positive offset.

Negative offset is when the mounting surface of the wheel is inboard of the wheel's centerline. Sometimes known as 'deep dish' wheels.
