Yeah I also dropped my kn on my 3.4 it gets every where. Was using the stock air box but couldn't use the windshield wiper spray bottle. Decided to go with an open True Flow round filter my Toy dealer parts guy highly recommends them plus I get good discounts from him. If any one wants a True Flow I have one brand new for the stock 3.4 air box that I din't use I was going to replace the kn but didn't get around to it. Check my listing in the f/s section if interested.

93 4Runner 3.4 swap, SAS, 37 Mtr, 5speed swap, High pinion ARB Front an Arb rear, ARB air compressor, Marlins Dual cases, bud built crossmemeber, 63 leaf spring swap. Sky rear disc conversion and the money keeps flowing!

Chili,

That's what I'm thinking of doing. What foam pre-filter are you using? Do you know if Amsoil has one the right size to fit over a K&N?

Well, my mistake, I expected it to be foam but it's the K&N pantyhose prefilter. It actually looks pretty good though, thicker than pantyhose by quite a bit. Hmmm, I wonder if I could use some No-Toil motorcycle filter oil on it and solve the microdust problem with finality?

The air filter Mike Caskey used is HUGE, so maybe with less demand on each square centimeter, plus the prefilter, it might work out as is.

I also thought about a tube paper filter, like from a Cosworth Vega. I could fab up a connector for it fairly easily. I could also just extend the tube into a homemade snorkel and run the filter on the top or something. Hmmmm. Need a splashguard of course, but... hmmmmm....... fab an airbox, snorkel..... hmmmmmm......

That No-Toil is pretty fabulous stuff by the way. Not sure I would use in on a K&N unless I had one to burn. It's water cleanup with their activator (USE GLOVES!), but really made for foam. Making a foam sock, or using a UNI filter as a sock, would work nicely. UNIs are reputed to pass microdust too though. But the foam on my XR650R is QUITE effective. Hmmmmm....

Call Jim Christiansen at Inchworm Gear and ask him for advice. His cousin invented No-Toil and Jim has been talking to him about truck applications and Toyotas in particular. He could tell you if it will work for the K&N or not and may even be able to get you a custom foam filter.

Picked up a Napa Gold for my truck and my girls. I compared them to the regular napa filter. there was a difference in material, not design/quality. the cheaper filter had a very paper, literally paper look/feel to it. the Gold has a nice cloth/fuzzyier material. $15 for mine, and $18 for hers. hopefully they last a while.

Harry I wasn't in anyway stating that No-Toil was an inferior product, just I am trying different brands to see what their effectiveness are in terms of efficiency... \

I did not take offense to your statement at all. There are a lot of good products on the market and I always like to drawn on experiences from different applications and try to apply them to our trucks.

the K&N oil may work best in on road applications, but in very dusty off-road conditions the fine dust does find it way through the filter media... the pre-filter charger helps but it's not the perfect solution and the pre-filter does restrict the air flow some, with a noticeable drop in performance when compared to just the K&N filter itselfà thereÆs not one solution that doesnÆt have drawbackÆs, the oiled filters clog easily in dusty environments no doubt about that, with paper filters you need a large filter areaà apart from some sort air/water scrubber to effectively remove the partials there is going to be some sort of compromise.

I'm trying to get the best combination. Do you think a foam filter used as a precharger would restrict the airflow like the K&N precharger? (stop the fine dust but not lose the airflow)
