Turn the key....nothing...no radio, dome light, nothing #615583 06/17/05 12:51 PM

Yesterday I stopped on my way home from work. When I went to start my 2000 4runner, the radio came on briefly, then everything went out. No radio, dome light, nothing.

I popped the hood open, and then heard a relay click. I want back in, turn the key, and it started right up.

Same thing happened again this morning when I went to start it to go to work.

The battery seems fine since it cranks right over when it has juice.

Whatever it is, it completely loses power since the radio presets are erased.

That click you are hearing could be an arc of a bad connection. Check the grounds and cables. Clean the connections to the battery and make sure the terminals are tight.

The terminals seem to be tight. I plan to clean them tomorrow.

Although i havent really heard the clicking on mine, but for some reason my battery connections sometimes dont, well connect. Ill turn the key not hear a damn thing, so i have to pop the hood and clean the connections. Its your best bet it seems. Mine never look or are dirty but its what the problem is. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Also check to see if there is corrosion on the cable itself. Sometimes you can build up crud under the insulation, which will decrease the cables ability to trasfer the juice. Make sure you check the grounds as well, as it could be a bad ground.

good luck

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did.

A new battery seems to have fixed the problem.
