I'll be installing a new ring and pinion in my friends 8.8 Ford rearend. He bought what are supposed to be Ford Motorsport OEM gears from Randy's Ring and Pinion. I was looking at the gearset last night and noticed that they lack matching numbers and also, there are no depth markings on the pinion. Is this typical of Ford OEM gears? I tried calling Randy' Ring and Pinion this morning but they're closed or weekends. Just wanna be sure I got good parts before I start the job. Superdawg are you there?

Yeah would be nice to have the pinion depth markings there so I could have a shim pack starting point closer than just using the old shim pack. Especially since the 8.8 has it's pinion depth shims under the bearing cone instead of under the bearing cup like a Dana or AMC. So to adjust the pinion depth you gotta have access to a press and bearing splitter to remove the bearing cone and add/remove shims under it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
