Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey guys, I don't know if this has ever happened to any of you, but over the weekend I went to visit my dad. I parked the truck on saturday night, had the fan on hi, and shut the truck off. When I got up yesterday morning to move it to go to church, the switch was frozen in the hi position. Tried some WD40 and a few other in a pinch fixes, but nada. It is like it just locked up. I unplugged the fan for the drive home. I am gonna dive in after work today, and just wanted to throw it out there and see if anybody had any tips, or to see if anybody might know whats up. Thanks for any help, or ideas.

Matt

It could be the contacts in the switch welded together. If so, pulling the switch out for a look would say for sure. Might be able to pry the contacts apart and file them clean, or it may need to be replaced.

How to remove the switch? Dunno, never have managed to tear that far into my dash

Ok, so I finally wrenched out the old fan switch, it was fried. The tech guy at the toyota dealership said it was one of the worse ones he'd seen. The tech guys said it was a common failure, but was not typical. Got a new switch, they had them in stock because they sell alot of them.
$60 bucks later I had the culprete, now I have another question.

I have been testing the new switch for continuity according to the FSM link, and the M2 and Hi settings are not registering, Does that mean the new switch is bad , or is there something I'm missing.

Got some good pics of the fouled switch I'll post in a few, and the switch itself is fairly straight forward to remove. I could detail it if anybody is interested.

Thanks again for any input.

Matt

Just thought you guys might find these interesting. The toy tech said it looked bad, but it was just how they went out.

His words were "When they go they GO!"

Gonna put the new one in this afternoon. Update to follow.
