Will the expansion joint (some call it the rag joint) stretch?

I'm installing a body lift on my 99 Rodeo and the gap between the flange looking joint is to great for post on the bottom piece to extend into the rag joint.

Can I tighten the bolts and stretch this rag joint until the bottom post penetrates the rag joint?

I need about 3/4 of an inch to get anywhere close to the orginal fit.

Desperate and frustrated.

Can someone confirm?

I think I figured it out. The additional spacers need to be added at the flange joint, but the added space needs to be such that the steering column and linkage is under tension and rigid.

The trick is to figure out the right length of spacer that meets the tension requirement and makes the flange joint rigid.

Anyhow, any comments from others that have completed a 2nd generation Rodeo lift will be greatly appreciated.

Third times a charm! smile
