Getting the Wheeling Fever
....to my old truck bed.

she gave up her box to the salted, wintery Minnesota roads.

all the bed bolts basically broke off because they were rusted so bad...

getting ready to head to the salvage yard..

on the way with the tailights duct taped to the bumper...

we just kicked it off into the parking lot at the salvage yard..

getting the hell out of there...
[Linked Image]

took it to the car wash, and sprayed off the 18 years of buildup underneath..

a mockup with the new bed... it almost looks respectable now..

in short.........beaters rule.

i'll prolly take a grinder and clean up the frame a bit, and quick spray bomb it with some primer. once the new box is on, i have a few cans of satin black implement paint to spray onto the whole truck

Now would be a perfect excuse to build a new custom bed and all kinds of stuff.

I actually live in Fargo. A fiberglass bed would've been awesome, no doubt....but waaaay too much money for me. I only paid $900 for the truck I found the new bed in the salvage yard for $200, and it's off a '94. It had a small dent on the rear corner, but it was an easy fix. The new style should last alot longer than the old one.

because it wasn't a rollbar. it was a "show bar" made from flimsy aluminum. junk.

wow. In FL we don't have rust problems like that. Just have to make sure a hurricane doesn't destroy your truck.

yeah.....it really is a testament to how much shyt these trucks can take. even though that frame looks wasted, it's still completely solid. it's pretty much all surface rust where the original coating wore off.
