did you have problems with the refrigeration of the compressor?.. as far as i've heard, you may not run the compressor for too long, because when you use it to inflate tires (or similar), it will no longer have the freon gas (refrigeration gas for air conditioning systems) which also works (lubricating?) or refigetarting the compressor itself..

I used a tool preoiler to keep it oiled and an air dryer on the back side to catch the oil as it came out..

It produced enough air to run an air impact when I had to change tires.. I also have some pics of me running a cut off tool with it.. It kept up pretty good... I would pour some oil straight into the intake side each time before a trip till it was full just for good measure.. But honestly believe the pre oiler was enough...

The AC compressor was much faster and produced much more air than the electric compressor.. I could fill my tank in about 2 1/2 minutes at 2000rpm... My problem was at the time I was having over heating issues and couldnt let my jeep sit in the woods reved up like that or I would overheat.. I started using an electric compressor and then I figured out what was wrong with my cooling system ..But I never bothered to switch back.. My rig is 90% offroad use.. So I dont always bother airing back up...Others use my OBA way more than I do...:D

Quick note.. The AC condensor is in front of the radiator on grands..If you get mudd packed between the two you will over heat constantly...

hey swampy, could you explain more about that "preoiler" ??
whas is a preoiler?
where do you install it?
will this mean that the air delivered by the compressor carries oil within it ??

A pre-oiler is a unit that adds oil into the oncoming air stream. You can get one for under 50$ at harbor freight.

You need to have the oiler on the intake tract of the compressor. The normal refrigerant circulated in an A/C system has oil in it to lube the pump so that the system can be 100% sealed. If you are using a newer pump you will need to be sure that you get a oil to it or it will burn up.

I use a york compressor in My CJ. It was fairly easy. I used the Stock mounting bracket that I found on an old AMC car with a 258 and got a rebuilt york out of a Volvo. All of this I found at the junkyard for under 80 bucks. I had a tank already and the the rest was just air chucks and hose. It all cost me about 300 bucks. It works very well. Do a search in google and it will pop up a bunch of write ups.

Like Winstonwrenchhead said. The York compressor is used on lots of cars so it is not hard to find. It has an oil sump like a regular air compressor so you don't need to worry about rigging an oiler. Personally, I think it's more trouble than it's worth, but I don't mind using someone else's OBA. My little electric pump takes care of tire inflation, air tools belong in the shop!

Jeepete's right on target, as usual!

If you're running 33's or smaller tires, you don't need a large capacity air pump to refill your tires after four wheeling.

I've been really happy with my Oasis Trailhead (York) compressor ; it fills my 37x12.50's from 10 lbs to 32 lbs in about 50 seconds per tire; mfr literature reports I can double the cfm's by wiring the pump for 24V. I don't know any good reason to do so at this time . . . I can already run my air tools directly off the pump without a storage tank (someday, I'll put in the storage tank. Just haven't got around to it. ) I only have taken my air tool kit on one safari . . . never got to use it!

I'm very happy with my York.

It can run an impact, at just above idle.

It can air up 35s from 8 psi to 26 psi in a couple of minutes.

www.onboardair.com has kits that adapt a york to alot of different jeeps, and mine allows me to keep my factory A/C intact so I can have cold air blowing on my face with not top or doors.

heelo Dan,

how does your electric lockers perform??... do you know what difference they have with the ARB lockers (in terms of performance )???
does an ARB locker needs pressure only to be activated or during the whole time they are engaged ???
