How common is this? and what causes this to happen? my pilot bearing was sitting on the inside of the flywheel, so I dont know when that fell off, hopefully it fell off when I was pulling everything apart. I got it all back together, new disc and bearing and it drives great again. How can I prevent this from happening again? erick

the flywheel looked find. it didnt move much cause i didnt drive on it. Whats funny is it still had a reasonable amount of life left in it.....I guess that EB cam did more than I realized <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> the only markings on it are FA. It came with the engine I just got so I dont know what brand it is or when it was put in. And oh ya, its not a prank, trust me you cant move when this happens

I've had some clutch discs do that to me before. No warning, just ripped off and now we're not moving. By and large, you get what you pay for with clutches. Pull a transmission at 50k miles some time just to look at the disc, you'll probably be surprised at some of the things you see.
As for the pilot bearing, check your input shaft bearing for play. They cant work together at failing, especially if the one has gone out and been that way. It's quite possible you've been running with the pilot bearing backed out for some time now.
