I went to look at a couple of trucks for sale today. One is an 87 4runner 4x4 silver/black top with some significant body rust and swiss cheese tailgate. I don't have much body work experience so I passed on the 4runner, but I'm still thinking of the 2wd pickup that was also for sale as part of the package or individualy. It is an 85-87 truck with a rusty bed and decent fenders. The engine has an oil leak at the oil pan(probably can be fixed with a new pan and gasket. The issue with the 2wd truck is that when it was parked near the road with a for sale sign on it, punks came by with bats and broke the windshield and both front door windows. I looked on car-part.com and see that window glass is available. Now I am trying to decide if it is worth it to buy the 2wd as a little truck for hauling junk back and forth to the dump. I could tear the bed off and build a bed or maybe pick up another bed? The truck would probably only be several hundred dollars.

Would it be a good idea to buy the 2wd truck? I'm having trouble deciding.

If you want a little beater, why not? Elbow Grease here has also managed to convert his 2wd to a 4wd over time. He also made a wooden bed for it.
You can always get the Runner and part it out <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

If you don't have a second vehicle, this might do the trick for you. Sux being single and not having a backup ride.

If I had room to store junk I would definitely get both trucks. As it is I have no storage space. I need to find a friend who lives in the country with room to store old trucks, trailers, etc.
