Okay, no gears or HP involved in this one! YEA!!!
I had a bent w/s hinge and after finally getting a replacement for it (bending it back to shape would have snapped the metal!) I realized how much a pain it is to replace these! The nuts for the mounting bolts on the body are WAY up in a little hole and have goo all over them, SO I just took the dash off and was able to get a better eye and grip up in there. After getting the nuts outta there, I had to fix some rust issues. First was on the side that was under the hinge, near the upper door hinge loc. and also on the body along the w/s to body gasket. I wanted to try out some of this bedliner stuff that I bought a couple months ago, so I figured, why not use it on this. Directions say to get rid of the rust, sand with course sand paper, clean and paint on bare metal.
Okay, did the prep work, masked off everything I didn't want splattered, applied two coats and waited till it wasn't tacky any more and put everything back together, they were calling for rain and I didn't want to leave any of this un-done with "Dennis" heading up anywhere near here.
Questions are:
*-Without baking in the sun, will this stuff "cure" under 'mounted' stuff and will it keep from rusting again?
*-Is this stuff paintable?
*-Anyone have any experience with bare metal applications and also with primed or other surface prep with this stuff on it?
Suggestion for removing these dang nuts, drill the bolt out, replace the dang bolts! I noticed that the later TJ's are easier to work with, they have more room under there....
