Symptoms û rough cold idle, hunting idle when cold, slight miss at idle when warm, tranny shifting funny, engine feels as if it has more power at times than it does at others, no fixed idle (start it now idle at 1000, start it at the store idle at 850, start it again 900, start it again 1000)

So, I rebuilt the TB in the hopes of eliminating some of these issues. Upon disassembly, I found that the metering base was not tight and the gasket was twisted allowing the mother of all vacuum leaks. You reckon this is an issue?

Also, the Helms manual states that the pressure regulator comes as an assembly. Nope. In addition, the ôDEATH SPRINGö that they refer to is not as strong as they make it out. I could collapse the spring easily with my thumb while I reinstalled the screws. It is a bit tricky getting the regulator diaphragm to sit flat during assembly. You have to get a little creative here. I cleaned the IAC port, seat and tip. I think this is the cause of my idle fluctuation. This may need to be replaced. All clean, reassemble and check for leaks. None.

Rough cold idle û solved
Hunting cold idle û NOT solved, but improved
Slight miss at idle when warm û solved
Tranny shifting funny û seems to be solved. Not sure if this leak could have effected the tranny or not. Maybe my imagination here.
engine feels as if it has more power at times than it does at others û solved
No fixed idle û NOT solved

This was very easy to do. I know there are multiple causes to rough idle and such, but I hope this may help someone out with a 2.8. - Jackleg
