I've cleaned up my engine compartment in anticipation of doing some actual work. Decided to start with replacing the very worn battery cables. I'm only 5'3" and would have to use a stepladder to get in there good enough to be able to reach down far enough to attach the grounds. No snikkering. I don't have a lift. Should I just go to the mechanic down the street and pay for them to put them in? Geez, a girl tries to help herself and comes up short
laughing at myself is okay.

If you're referring to the ground connection that goes to the engine block, it's easily accessed from beneath.

If your cable arrangement is like mine, the OE passenger side negative is a single cable connected first to the inner fender and then to the engine block. I changed to two cables from the battery (-) - one to the inner fender and the other to the engine block. There is also a negative cable on the driver side from the inner fender to the engine block, also accessible from underneath.

The fender connections should be easily accessible from above with a step stool.

The negative is like you said from post to fender then down to the block. Probably can do that one from below. The positive runs along the front of the compartment then way down to netherlands to the starter. I don't know about another negative. I'll give it another look tonight. I'll just do a belly flop on the top of the fenders and then crawl underneath.

I pointed each one out (I believe) on Saturday. She's got nice pretty new OEM Mitsu cables too. If you had a way to reinflate the ft tires, I sometimes let all the air out of my tires in the ft so I can reach better. An old floded up blanket or old moving pad works well on the fender, it protects you from scratches ect too.

Mississippi,
It is better to have loved "a short" than never to have
loved "a tall".
Do it yourself.
My wife can sit, on the floor, in the wheel wells and replaced the shocks for me.

Miss Issipi,
Won't catch me laugin'...you're probably a more capable mechanic than I am...but at 6'2", I CAN reach around the engine compartment pretty well...not that it ever does any good.

I want one of those "overhead creepers", like a miscegination (or is it menage a trois?) of a creeper and an engine hoist and a massage table. It's got a U frame like a hoist, with a ladder thing on the upward slant, and a stretcher thing with a face rest (like a swiss cheese headrest in reverse), but with only the center of the chest supported so the arms and shoulders are free. Better yet, HIRE a real mechanic and sit and drink beer and watch him and criticize.

Be glad it's not bigger. I can't reach much of anything in the Blazer without crawling into the engine compartment. Feet are too big for stools, too....

I hadn't read in a while, you guys are trippin! If I hired a mechanic to fix all that needs fixin on 'belle, I'd brake the bank and definitely tick off the hubby .
