well i started hitting the yards today to source some parts. im not to sure if i should get a G or w tranny i noticed the G's come with vehicle with ADD should i got with that because i have add. i have to check if my transfer case will bolt up to a G. Are there any pro's and cons about the w56's and G58's. i figure ill be saving money than getting my auto fixed and i will have better performance with 5 speed right?? im trying to get the pedal assemblies and master clylinder mounted before i take the auto out. do i really need to change the ecu's any last minute help or advice will be greatly appreciated?? I will take lots of pics for you guys who plan on doing the swap in the future

You'd be happier with a W56; Rseries is preferred, but unsure if you need an adapter.
Did you toggle that thread I gave you for a swap someone just did here in the past couple of months?

I see a couple of small welds that would make me wonder; rest should pop out of the way. One thing I'd suggest is that you take some cardboard, your camera, measuring tape, and sharpie with you to get the pedals; trace the holes from the donor firewall for a template; the picture will give you a point of reference. Also look for a tab on the bottom frame of your dash; it's where your clutch return spring will be anchored; you might have to rig a little something up there. Best view is with the underside trim out of the way.

Yes, the pedal assembly will come out, but there should be a one more bolt at the top of the bracket above the brake pedal.

Be aware that auto and manual tranny pedal assemblies can be different widths. Wait to mark your holes for the clutch master cyl. until you have both assemblies together for comparison.

You don't need to change the ECU, you'll get better performance with the auto ECU.

Better performance? This is the first time I've heard this... Any info?

Check the shifter bushings; I take it they're giving you the shifters and the towers, yes?
If possible, get the odo reading from the donor vehicle, so you have an idea of what you're working with.
Loosen fill plugs for tranny/xfer case, THEN open the drain plugs; if they're magnetic, check for shavings or gray oil.
See if it has the shock mount; might be different from the auto; not sure. You WILL want this.

Check to make sure it has the backup and 4wd switches installed (2 plugs with wires on them). If it still has the front driveline attached, keep it. Cardan joints go bad on them all the time, usually due to improper lube jobs. Smile to yourself and say thank you.

If you need pictures for positive ID, go over to the Toyota FAQ section for them.

Dunno about that ECU thing; first I've heard; never mind the 'performance' part. 4Crawler, any thoughts?
