After 213,000 miles, my seat makes my back ache especially on trips over one hour.
Can the foam be replaced or is it cheaper to replace the whole seat in order to get greater comfort? Are any seats a direct replacement? I'd appreciate any ideas.
Thanks,
Mark

probably your best option is to go to a junkyard or look for someone parting out a car with bucket seats. I got a pair of 90 prelude buckets off ebay for my truck and they are amazing compared to my old bench, I had to drill 3 holes for each seat but it was really easy.

I got some from a junkyard for $20 a piece out of an older corolla, had to drill 3 holes but it was simple. All you really need is a BFH and some drill bits lol.

Figure about $125-150 to have an auto upholstry shop do the seat, I am not sure if you can find the pr-cut foam at the dealer or online.

If you have seat covers, you might look for a passenger bucket seat from '84-89 4-Runner or '84-85 SR5 extra cab and swap the seat back and bottom, most passenger seats are almost new. This would be the cheapest way to go since you are buying one seat and it would be a direct bolt in.

Otherwise, pick up a set of used buckets at the wrecking yard, look for Toyota seats for better fitment. Measure the height of your seat(floor to top of cushion), and try to stay within that height, alot of newer buckets are taller which may reduce headroom.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

My buckets posted above had to be modded a bit, they were out of a toyota which really helped but the tabs in the front had to be bent over the bar thus the seat was raised about 1" over stock, I dont notice it to much since I recline it back a lot but I can tell im higher then normal, either way buckets=the rule lol. Now if I wasnt cheap though I would get me a set of Beard, PRP, or mastercraft racing seats, my buddy has them in his prerunner and they are so damn comfortable you can fall asleep in them. If you want to go this route their is a place by me named leadfoot that has some PRP buckets for sale I think they are $170 a piece but well worth it.

I've seen "racing" bucket seats at a chain parts store for $100.00 each. They look like the type the kids with Civics like to install.

I found a set of Miata seats for my truck. The rear bolts were really close but I had to drill the seat bracket a little. The fronts I just bent a little. They are far better than the Toyota seats as they have a full steel pan on the bottom. The Toyota seats are wire and foam. Plus they have built in speakers! Ebay 50 bucks each.

A buddy of mine has a set of thoes "$100 kidie car seats" in his WRX. I think they are made by Driver F/X. Anyway, they are recliners w/holes for racing style seat belts. My take on them is, are supportive, a little hard for daily driving, somewhat slippery, and the price is right overall.
I run/ran a pair of seats from a 91 240 SX in my turbo truck and like them a lot. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
