Getting the Wheeling Fever
Is there room on a '04 3.4 to add a second alternator?

I camp out a lot with my truck, and I've been looking at getting a portable fridge. At the same time I'm thinking about getting a roll bar and loading it with mega lights (PIAA, as bright as I can get!)...

And there are other things that I would like to use on trips that require some juice, but I don't wanna blow up the factory alternator...

So you tell me... Should I go with a larger alternator, or stick with factory and add a second (if there is room)...

Thanks!

You don't need a second alternator. Just buy a dual battery kit and a high output alternator.

Did you see THIS ARTICLE or THIS ONE yet?

Might give you a few ideas. We have a 93 FSM for 22RE/3.0 engine sticky'd in the early trucks section, and the 3.4 one sticky'd here, so you can compare schematics.

Might want to figure out what kind of a load you'd be pulling with your goodies to find a suitable setup.

Not sure what's available for light racks, but check out HID lights. Lots of light with very little power required. HID lights are used often on motocross motorcycles converted for off road use (read: very little electrical power available).

Yep I second the addtional battery. You can even get solar rechargers so they will charge your battery during the day while camping. that way at night you will have battery power at night.....
