Need a Spot
have 85 4x4 p/u with 22re and calif. emmisions question is what crap can I remove from this eng to make it run better
don't have emmisions testing where i lve

On the '85 22REC, there is really nothing extra that is not on the 49-state 22RE engine, at least as far as I have found yet.

I think the only differences may be things like different timing specs for California, and maybe an extra vacuum dohicky put somewhere. You won't really gain anything by taking that stuff off, but maybe a check engine light and poor running.

As I noted, no differences that I have found yet, in fact the '85 FSM makes no mention at all of anything different for the 22RE, but they do for the 22R. Timing seems to be identical (5 BTDC), no extra vacuum dohickeys, etc. Yes, in later years, they added things like a temp sensor on the EGR valve and a 2nd O2 sensor behind the cat on the 50-state engines.
