He he , not exactly a wheelin' related question, but is there a way to increase the output from the HVAC fan? In my '85, the highest setting doesn't seem to be putting out a whole lot of flow. Not compared to my wife's old '89 anyways... Is there a way to increase the flow from the vents?

I think 4crawler's website has some info on rebuilding the blower fan. Here ya go For those unaware, HVAC stands for Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

Thanks Bandit, I've looked over that previously, but it doesn't quite give me the answer to my question. All of my fan settings work fine, I just wanna get more flow from the vents. Any ideas?

There are two things on that page, the blower ressitor that controls the fan speeds below max. and then repairing the blower motor itself. If your motor's brushes are worn down to nubs, the motor will run slower and slower (on all speeds) until it finally stops moving. Try taking your motor out, clean and inspect it, lube up the bushings and clean the fan blades, as noted on the page: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Blower.shtml#MotorRepairThen while the fan is out, clean out the ducting and see if there is anything obstructing the air flow.

*oops* Shows my understanding of the matter, eh? Okay, so I guess I will check the brushes and motor when I have some time...
BUT - Is there anyway to modify the blower or motor so there is more flow? *crawling back under table to avoid pelting with rotten tomatoes*

You might be able to swap in a later model motor and/or fan. There is a slightly different style motor in the '89+ blowers, so maybe they run faster or have a different fan. Making the existing motor run as fast as possible will also help, too. The old oilite bushings dry out, increasing friction at the motor turns and that slows it as does worn brushes, as they wear down, the spring tension on them lessens and this causes them to arc and wear down even faster. Dirt and what not on the fan blades interferese with air flow as well. Also check the vent ducts and flappers for air leaks to make sure you aren't losing any air.

Sounds good, Roger. I will update the post when I dig in and find any problems. Going to get the A/C recharged, hopefully they don't find any huge, $$$ leaks...
