I was looking at the three core rad. from Radiator Barn for the Gen I monty. It's a three core and is for the auto. They say it's for both auto and five spd and what I'm wondering is. Would it be a good idea to use the trans cooler part of the rad. as a oil cooler? I have a 5 spd so no need for the trans cooler portion of the rad but that is all they have available...so my thoughts were to use the trans cooler as an oil cooler...Any suggestions?

Just be sure to check that the overall measurements & the locations of the coolant/tranny inlets & outlets are the same or you may have an unwanted adventure findng a hose that will work.

Why don't you just put a Starion oil cooler on your 2.6 Use the trans cooler part of the radiator to make a hot shower.
Well on my way to becoming that eccentric old man in every town.(crazy as a s#@thouse rat) With a yard full of desireable old vehicles that tells you, Sorry they're not for sale..... Someday I'm going to fix them.

DO NOT try to use the transmission cooler part of the radiator as an engine oil cooler! There's a lot more pressure in the oil system, especially at start up than there is in the transmission of an automatic in the cooling loop. Think about how we have braided steel lines made up for oil coolers, and then look at the lines that connect an automatic transmission oil cooler with just rubber hose and simple clamps. If that pressure breaks the inside part of your automatic transmission cooler that is in the radiator - look out. That's the sense I make of it.

here are some of my pictures from dropping in the starion oil cooler. I have no idea if it even works or does anything. Starion Oil Cooler Pics (folder) Why don't you just put a Starion oil cooler on your 2.6 Use the trans cooler part of the radiator to make a hot shower. woah! what a cool idea!!!! does that really work? would you have to circulate the water through it a few times to get it up to temperature?

Some of the 2 door v6s didnt have oil coolers. My raider did not. I added one out of a junk yard. It bolts right up.
